Reflection on my Sources

During this project, I found several sources that i could not use. However; I did find several sources that I could use, such as Susan Thompson's Rescue a Pit Bull. She told me what pit bulls were like and what their behavior was. She also wrote another website call Pet Pit Bull-Breed Information. This website told me the history of pit bulls and how to make them non aggressive and become obedient. Also, I found several news papers that have written articles about pit bulls and I took examples from that.

Refelection on Process

This Isearch blog was fairly easy to to me but had challenging parts. The easiest part was the wordles and finding pictures for my blog. The hardest part was the finding paragraphs and finding good reliable sources to help find quotes. I enjoyed looking up info about my topic. The only thing i did not enjoy was creating the animoto video. If i had this project again i would edit each post after i was done with it and not wait until the end to edit every post.

I choose the most important words for my second wordle to show how important they are. The biggest one I choose is stereotypes, because that is very important in my blog discussion. The other words are mainly about how dogs are neglected and are misjudged. The word obedient is big because it shows how the dogs could not be mistreated if they were obedient

Reflection on Findings

I found a lot of information about my topic, more than I could have ever imagined. The most shocking information I found was about that pit bulls are not the most aggressive dogs and it is in fact the Golden Retriever. I also found interesting that pit bull attacks happen in large cities; I thought they would occur a lot more in the country. But once I found out the reason for pit bull attacks in the city was due to dog fighting it was easy to believe.

Finding Paragraph #3

Throughout my research I have seen that people are divided on whether or not the pit bull is a good dog or whether it is naturally aggressive. But threw research I have found that pit bulls are not the most aggressive dogs but some of most aggressive dogs are much unexpected. The golden retriever, chow, Border collie, boxer, and Doberman pinscher are the most commonly aggressive dogs according threw charts i have found(Dog Obidence advice). Pit bulls for some reason are targeted most when it comes to stereotypes. This is how stereotypes form and grow. The seed is planted, and each event that confirms the stereotype causes it to grow, while events that go against the stereotype are minimized or rejected(Happy pitbull) (American heritage dictionary).  I found that pit bulls are more likely to attack if they feel threatened or challenging by another object(Pitbull lovers). But this will only happen if not trained properly and if the are taught to be obedient at birth.

FInding Paragraph #2

These Pit bull stereotypes are very serious because they are giving the breed a bad reputation. For example when a Pit bull goes to an Animal Shelter he is put down between 3 to 5 days if no one try's  to claim him(Petfinder). The reason for this is because people won't come to get the dog because of what they hear about it which is predominately stereotypes. Some of the dogs like all breeds have bad dogs but its not because the breed is bad its because the owner has mis trained them(Yumasun). Every breed has bad dogs, but that should not represent the entire breed. The effects of the owner can surely effect how the dog reacts to situations. If the residence is hostile environment then the dog could become hostile too.'' Dogs have to be trained a certain way to act it will not just act freely on how it wants to'', according to Cesear Milan the (Dog Whisperer).

Finding Paragraph #1

Through out my research I found that it is the way a dog is brought up that affects it behavior it is not the type of dog. The Pit Bull is the most targeted of all dog breeds targeted by stereotypes. This breed I believe is most affected by stereotypes, people are against them because they have a history of being aggressive.The old quote ''Dogs are man best friend''(Ezine articles) , but how can we treat the dogs like this and think of them like this? But threw my research I have found that several events can occur to make the aggressive and will attack people. First, a lot of the reported  pit bull attacks have been in large cities such as Seattle Portland and Los Angles but they do not happen very often (Menace Unleashed). I found that several gangs live in these cities, and a lot of gangs put on dog fights to make money. The Pit Bull is a favorite for dog fighting because they are muscular dogs and they have a powerful bite (ASPCA). The dogs are trained to win and never quit until they are physical cant move. When the dog fights occur one of the dog must lose, the loser dog if not dead is usually thrown out to die. If the dog gets better he still has the fighter mentality and now he is on the streets with several other stray dogs and unfortunately if a person walks by the pit bull will probably attack.

 Summary - This quote is very useful in my debate. This man in particular uses pit bulls for a good reasons. Pit bulls are good police force dogs but not always the best house pets in some circumstances. People get Pit bulls without knowing anything about there breed. They end up getting them just because they want to and end up being mean to them and that makes the pit bull become mean to them and wonder why the dog bites back. People need to take dog tests to find the right dog that suits there lifestyle and not go by the dog that they want. Some people get the wrong dog and pay the price by having to euthanize them because the dogs became aggressive. If people will get a dog that can suit there lifestyle and not just get a pit bull or any type of dog the rates of accidents relating to dogs will done.

Summary- I think this quote is extremely powerful and goes into a different perspective of pitbulls. This has made me think of pit bulls in a different way. This is stating that pit bulls are very loyal dogs and are willing to do anything for the people they love. This has got me to think may be the reason why pit bulls are aggressive because they may be protecting the people they love. I know that my dogs are harmless dogs but are very protective of my family. Pit bulls are known for being a breed that will not stop wants it starts something and is very protective.Most people do not  see the fact that pit bulls are just regularly dogs but have faults just like all dogs do. Pit bulls are dogs that should be honored for there loyalty like this quote says but instead they are looked at like they are savage dogs.

e\Seattle's Pit bull population has been increasing and i believe it is because of dog fighting.I believe it has something to do with the gangs and making the dogs fight for gambling purposes. I think since dog fighting rates have gone up in this country the pit bull rates have gone up because pit bulls are favorite choice of dog fighting. Gangs have been known to use dog fighting as a main source of money.

Summary-I think this is a very good quote/ question and answer. I think it is impossible for a pit bull to live a normal live style. It is just like a war veteran coming home and they cannot function properly because they are mentally and physically screwed up. This same scenario applies  to pit bulls being rescued from dog fights. They still have the fighter mentally even when they go to a safe environment. They were taught to fight when they saw another dog. Sometimes the dog fighter just puts the streets so the dog has to fight for food. So when a pit bull sees a dog on the street it will attack and unfortunately a small child could be seen by a pit bull and it could be seriously injured. Some pit bulls are glad to be resc ued and will never fight again but some are to mentally impaired and cannot be transformed back to normal.

The people who don't care for the dogs and just want the money that goes along with it. This quote is a joke because if you read the rest of the article she is saying that pit bulls are not dangerous. There is a graph on my blog that shows pit bull aggressiveness compared to other dogs. It says that a Golden Retriever poses a greater risk to your kids than a Pit Bull.  As does a Collie and a Shetland Sheepdog. Some of the most aggressive dogs are the Shetland Sheepdogs, Akitas, Doberman Pinschers, Collies, Border Collies, Boxers and Golden Retrievers. Pit bulls are a victim of cruelty and they cannot defend for themselves. Another quote i like is ''Ignorance is the Real Danger''. Some people are ignorant to dog attacks. Dog fighters make dogs fight and don't think when they get out they wont attack other dogs. This definitely helps prove me point that pit bulls have unnecessary stereotypes.

This picture feeds right into my topic. Its show a nice dog that could become mean in a second. The dogs are saying no dogs are bad it is the owners fault for making the dog become mean. You can see that the two the two types of dogs that they use are a pit bull and rottweiler. This is significant because these are the two types dog breeds that i am try to state in my blog that have the biggest stereotypes of being naturally aggressive.

This quote really got me to think a reason why a lot of pit bulls might be mean because they live out in the streets. They have to fight for food and look out for themselves. What I Want to Know

                Derogatory remarks towards dogs have been around for long times don’t get a Pit-bull if you have kids it can’t kill them.  I want to know why did these Stereotypes start, is it because of dog fighting that is my Opinion. These Stereotypes can kill dogs, for example when Pit bulls go the animal shelter they are put to sleep within three days of being there. Most Pit bulls don’t make it out of the pound because when families want a dog they usually go for a puppy or a small dog that does not look mean.  I would like to know if some people get a Pit bull because they want a mean dog and they know what Pit bulls are capable off so that’s why they own them. Every animal has a Stereotype that isn’t true; these are the Stereotypes that people think of when they hear the dog’s name. These misconceptions of dogs need to be stopped.

What I know

What I already know about dog aggression and Stereotypes.   That when I walk my dog some people look afraid of her all because she is German Sheppard even thought she is completely harmless.  I know that some of my friends have to get rid of there dogs because there landlords insurance does not cover vicious breeds such as pit bulls a Rottweiler.  Today I know the Pit-bull is the most prominent dog used for dog fighting. Some people say these dogs are naturally mean and that is what the dog should be used for. That is a Stereotype, Pit bulls are not mean it is the way the dog is brought up, if the owner is aggressive towards it of course the dog will become aggressive. However just like any breed some dogs will be mean but the owner should take action to make the dog obedient there are classes and just stay in control of the dog. I believe the way the dog is brought is the reason why it becomes aggressive.

Behind the Topic

Some animal breeds are feared by man, and the people have not even owned the dog and they are already judging the dog. Some of the most feared dogs to day are the Pitbull, Rottweiler, and the German Shepard. These dogs have a reputation of being mean and aggressive dogs. But in reality that is not true just like in all breeds some of the dogs are mean. Some of the dogs are mean because the owners treat them wrong and makes them aggressive. A lot of the dogs today are very territorial and are not mean when they leave there house or when it is not over food. When a dog becomes aggressive there are steps you can take to make it none aggressive, but some people just leave it and will make the dogs fight. Some people are born into this and say dog fighting is fun and the dogs are already mean and this is were the Stereotypes come in.
